THE STORY OF ORGANIC LONG ISLAND STRAWBERRY
Long Island has been famous for its strawberries for as long as people have inhabited the long spit of land. Local history books describe Long Islanders going on picnics and nature hikes to pick the wild berries as far back as the 1850's - and that's only recorded history. Archaeological records show that the Native Americans who inhabited the area centuries ago were also fond of the sweet summertime fruit.
Commercial farming on Long Island began to develop rapidly after the Civil War. It certainly didn't hurt that the local farms were generally within a day's drive of New York City. Among the new cash crops taken to market was the wild strawberry. As farmers began to haul their produce around the give boroughs, word quickly spread about the exceptional flavor of the Long Island treat. The strawberry's popularity grew quickly and as time wore on and car culture began to develop, roadside fruit stands popped up to cater to the city folk who began to partake in the new-found pleasure of the long country drive. To this day a journey out to Long Island will take you past many such roadside stalls and pick-your-own berry patches.
We've taken the spectacular flavor of fresh, wild strawberries and blended it with a fantastic Sencha style green tea sourced from Hunan Province. The fine broad leaves of the tea hold our natural flavoring well and produce a cup that is light, fresh and tempered with notes of juicy strawberry. The best part? It's 100% organic! Brew yourself a pot today and dream of a summer cruise through the countryside.
BREWING INSTRUCTIONS
BREWING INSTRUCTIONS FOR HOT TEA: Infuse one slightly heaping teaspoon for each 8 ounce cup with water heated to 85 degrees celcius for 3-7 minutes.
Infuse 6 slightly heaping teaspoons of tea with 1 1/4 cups of water heated to 85 degrees celcius for 5 minutes. Quarter fill a serving pitcher with cold water, and add the infused tea, straining the leaves, to the pitcher. Add ice and top-up the pitcher with cold water. Add lemon and sweeten to taste. A rule of thumb when preparing fresh brewed iced tea is to increase the strength of hot tea since it will be poured over ice and diluted with cold water.
Infuse 1 slightly heaping teaspoon of loose tea with 6 ounces of water heated to 85 degrees celcius for 5 minutes. Add the tea to a 12 ounce glass, filled with ice, straining the leaves. Add hot tea to a 12oz/375ml acrylic glass filled with ice, straining the tea or removing the bags. Add lemon and sweeten to taste.
NUMBER OF CUPS: 15-20 cups from each 50 grams of tea, with a single use of the leaves. Loose leaf tea is traditionally infused 3 times, with a different flavor profile following each infusion. Accordingly, each 50 gram bag can make up to 60 cups of tea.
